Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has bolstered its cyber defences following the conclusion of a three week-long programme that saw 264 computer security specialists from around the world try to penetrate the ministry’s IT networks and systems.
Speaking about the results of the ‘Bug Bounty Programme’, the ministry said in a statement on 21 February that 97 vulnerability reports were submitted from 34 participants, with 35 reports deemed valid. Taking part in the programme were so-called ‘white hat hackers’: specialists who break into protected IT systems and networks to test and assess their security as well as expose their vulnerabilities before malicious hackers can exploit them.
