The US Air Force (USAF) released more weapons over Afghanistan last month than in any other January since 2011, according to US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT).
Recently released data show that USAF aircraft released a total of 321 weapons in January 2018 as part of Operation ‘Freedom’s Sentinel’ and the NATO-led ‘Resolute Support’ mission in the Central Asian country.
While the latest AFCENT figures are lower than those for the previous months of December (455), November (352), and October (653), they mark an almost six-fold increase compared with those of January 2017 (54).
The last time the USAF used more weapons in Afghanistan in the month of January was in 2011 (405) during the administration of former president Barack Obama.
