14 February 2018

Key Points

  • Philippines believes it doesn’t owe Canada a justification for the planned procurement

The Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) has formally cancelled its contract with the Canadian government to procure 16 new Bell Helicopters 412EPI medium-lift helicopters for the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

Arsenio Andolong, chief of the DND’s public affairs office, told Jane’s on 14 February that the DND has now issued a notice to the Canadian government’s export-support agency – the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) – to terminate the contract, which was valued at PHP12 billion (USD232 million).
