Pentagon budget 2019: USN further funds carrier construction, overhaul

The US Navy’s fiscal year 2019 budget request includes about USD2.3 billion to help fund the overhaul of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and complete more work on the Ford-class programme as well.

The budget request includes about USD 450 million to fund the third increment of the advance procurement for the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of the Nimitz-class carrier USS John S. Stennis .

The FY 2019 budget also requests about USD1.6 billion to continue to finance the second increment of detailed design and construction for the third Ford-class carrier – the Enterprise (CVN 80).

The proposal also requests another USD292 million for Ford-class integration efforts, test planning and support, and funds to continue testing, training and logistics development on Advanced Arresting Gear and Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System.
