Russian military adopts Kalashnikov and Degtyarev assault rifles

The Russian Armed Forces have adopted the 5.45 mm AK-12 (GRAU index code 6P70 ) and 7.62 mm AK-15 (6P71) assault rifles from the Kalashnikov Group, a subsidiary of the Rostec state corporation, and the 5.45 mm A-545 (6P67) and 7.62 mm A-762 (6P68) assault rifles from the Degtyarev Plant, a subsidiary of Rostec’s High-Precision Weapons holding, a military source has told Jane’s .

“The firearms from the Degtyarev Plant demonstrated better performance during unsupported [standing, kneeling, etc.] firing and they are recommended for special units. The assault rifles from the Kalashnikov Group have a better trade-off between simplicity and reliability, making them more suitable for joint service,” the official said on 25 January.
