IAI to examine blockchain for defence applications

02 February 2018

Blockchain has significant potential to secure military networks, according to Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), which has announced plans to co-operate with a bank to research the technology.

Blockchain, which is best known as an essential component of virtual currencies like Bitcoin, allows the user to create a data network without a central authority. All the data is spread across the entire network, which depends on every node, or ‘block’. This reduces the potential vulnerabilities associated with concentrating data in a single point. Additionally, each block in the chain is secured with highly sophisticated cryptography, boosting the security of the entire network.
