US President Donald Trump has rejected the idea of engaging in peace talks with the Taliban in the near future following a series of militant attacks in Afghanistan.
“I don’t think we’re prepared to talk right now,” Trump was quoted by the White House as saying on 29 January during a lunch meeting with members of the United Nations Security Council.
“It’s a whole different fight over there. They [the Taliban] are killing people left and right. Innocent people are being killed left and right…. So we don’t want to talk with the Taliban. There may be a time, but it’s going to be a long time,” said Trump at the White House.
