Boeing unveils new unmanned eVTOL cargo air vehicle prototype

Boeing on 10 January unveiled a new unmanned electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) cargo air vehicle (CAV) prototype that will be used to test and evolve the company’s autonomy technology for future aerospace vehicles, according to a company statement.

The vehicle is designed to transport a payload weighing up to 500 pounds for possible future cargo and logistics applications. The prototype is outfitted with eight counter rotating blades, measuring 15 ft long, 18 ft wide, and 4 ft tall, weighing 747 pounds (339 kg).

Logan Jones, Boeing HorizonX senior director, told Jane’s on 11 January that this prototype CAV has many potential defence applications.
