The littoral combat ship Manchester (LCS 14) completed acceptance trials recently in the Gulf of Mexico, shipbuilder Austal USA said on 2 January.
Manchester is the seventh of the Austal-built Independence-variant LCSs.
The trials, completed on 15 December 2017, involved comprehensive tests by the Austal-led industry team while underway to demonstrate to the US Navy (USN) that the ship’s major systems and equipment operate properly.
Acceptance trials are the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship in early 2018, Austal officials noted. LCS 14 will be the second Independence-variant LCS Austal delivers to the USN in fewer than six months.
