BAE Systems has retained its position as the top supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) according to the latest annual defence industry trade and commercial data released by the ministry.
The UK-based defence giant received about GBP3.652 billion (USD4.884 billion) in payments from the MoD in the financial year 2016–17, which was more than twice the revenue of its nearest rival, Babcock International Group at GBP1.691 billion.
Babcock, which provides maintenance and logistic support services to the Royal Navy and British Army, generated twice the revenue of the ministry’s third largest supplier, Airbus, which received GBP819 million.
The remaining companies in the top 10 suppliers included Rolls-Royce, Lockheed Martin, Leonardo, QinetiQ, General Dynamics, HP, and Serco.
