US science, technology, and services group Leidos has been contracted by the US Office of Naval Research (ONR) to build a second Sea Hunter-type Class III Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vessel (MDUSV) to support science and technology (S&T) advancement of autonomous technologies and techniques.
Announced on 15 December, the USD35.5 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract covers the delivery of Sea Hunter II , also referred to as Autonomous Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel Hull Number 2. Contract options, if exercised, could bring the contract value up to USD43.6 million.
The original Sea Hunter technology demonstrator, also delivered by Leidos, was built for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to meet the agency’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) programme.
