The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) has suspended patrols of its four Holland-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) after finding a problem with the sprinkler system on one of them, the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 27 November.
The sprinkler systems are being replaced on all four OPVs after problems were found on the Zr. Ms. Holland in October and then with the systems' mounting brackets on the other three, the MoD reported. Automation, including of the firefighting system, enables the OPVs to have reduced crews, whose safety cannot be guaranteed if the sprinklers are faulty, the MoD explained.
Three of the four will be operational again in a year, it said.
