Commander of the UK Joint Forces Command (JFC) General Sir Chris Deverell has warned how the country’s armed forces remain almost wholly dependent upon satellite communications (SATCOM).
Addressing delegates at the SMi Global MilSatCom conference in London on 7 November, Gen Deverell described how the Ministry of Defence (MoD) remains a “major user” of space-based systems, with 90% of platforms and systems dependent upon technology in that domain to varying degrees.
He also predicted future increases in the utility of space-enabled C4ISR systems, while describing JFC’s responsibility across the C4ISR domain, including support of special operations forces and cyber warfare.
