Japan will donate five Beechcraft TC-90 King Air advanced trainer aircraft to the Philippines at the end of March 2018 to bolster the Southeast Asian country’s maritime security capabilities.
Japan ’s Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) – a division under the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Tokyo – said in a 25 October statement that Manila had asked the Japanese government to switch from a leasing arrangement to one where it could acquire the aircraft free of charge.
Two of the TC-90s are currently being leased by the Philippine Navy (PN) from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) under a deal that includes pilot training and aircraft maintenance support.
