AUSA 2017: SMET unmanned ground vehicle headed to IBCTs for trials

10 October 2017

The US Army’s Squad Maneuver Equipment Transport (SMET) is expected to soon complete an initial demonstration before up to four configurations are chosen for trials with infantry brigade combat teams (IBCTs), Bryan McVeigh, project manager for Force Projection, told reporters on 10 October.

The army down-selected in July to 10 SMET contracts for suppliers to come to Fort Benning for testing, McVeigh said at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) conference.

Eight suppliers participated and on 11 September started a trial that is expected to end on 16 October. The army will then evaluate mobility performance and select up to four configurations for testing with two IBCTs, McVeigh said.
