Mali receives new aircraft

02 October 2017

The Malian Air Force has taken delivery of two Harbin Y-12 twin-engine light transport aircraft and an undisclosed number of Russian Helicopters Mi-35M attack helicopters, a spokesperson for the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) confirmed to Jane’s .

The FAMa spokesperson declined to provide information regarding the timeline for the delivery or the details of the procurement process for each type, including whether the Y-12s were purchased or donated by China, which maintains an active military co-operation programme with Bamako.

The EU Training Mission in Mali revealed in its September newsletter that the FAMa had received two Mi-35Ms and has another two on order.
