EU extends sanctions against Libyan officials obstructing peace process

28 September 2017

The EU has extended its sanctions against Libyan officials accused of obstructing the country’s December 2015 peace process and the resulting Government of National Accord.

Pointing to the “continuing instability and gravity of the situation in Libya”, the EU Council announced on 28 September the renewal for six months of sanctions against Agila Saleh, president of the Libyan Council of Deputies in the House of Representatives; Khalifa Ghweil, prime minister and defence minister of the internationally unrecognised General National Congress (GNC); and Nuri Abu Sahmain, the GNC’s president.
