The US Air Force’s (USAF's) top officer believes the future of warfare is in urban settings and the key to succeeding in urban warfare will be information sharing.
USAF Chief of Staff General David Goldfein said on 19 September that the service predicts by 2050, close to 80% of the planet will live in cities. The problem, he said, is that the USAF is likely designed for operating in open spaces.
Gen Goldfein spoke glowingly of the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK), a data management tool that he said was designed by Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
