UK Minister of Defence Michael Fallon signed a memorandum of understanding covering the use of the Port at Duqm on 28 August, during a visit to Muscat, Oman. Fallon was joining Oman’s Minister responsible for Defence Affairs Sayyid Badar bin Saud bin Harub Al Busaidi, who also signed the agreement during a ceremony.
The United Kingdom is developing a logistics support base at Duqm, a base that will include a massive drydock to help service Royal Navy ships. The port development is a joint venture between Babcock International and the Oman Drydock Company, and will not only serve the Royal Navy but is also expected to provide services for a range of other ships.
