ADS says Brexit strategy rethink is needed after UK election

UK aviation industry organisation ADS Group believes that the government must refresh its Brexit strategy and reach out to the wider aerospace community, following the general election on 8 June 2017 in which the incumbent Conservative Party – led by Theresa May – failed to win the increased parliamentary majority it expected.

Without a clear mandate, May’s Brexit team is expected to soften its stance with the European Union (EU) once negotiations finally start, and ADS is optimistic that more consensual progress will be made.

“We believe that since the UK election – and political developments elsewhere in Europe – there is now a new opportunity to refresh the UK approach to Brexit, and put all options on the table to be part of the UK’s negotiating priorities,” ADS chief executive Paul Everitt told Jane’s on 14 June at a pre-Paris Air Show media briefing in London.
