US forces are building a database with serial numbers for weapons being delivered to Syrian Kurdish commanders, as well as information on the commanders themselves, as the transfer of arms begins ahead of the fight for the Syrian city of Al-Raqqah, a coalition spokesman told reporters on 1 June.
The weapons began to be transferred at the end of May, although officials would not confirm specific types and quantities that have been, or will be given to Syrian Kurds.
The database will be shared with Turkish officials and other US allies as part of an effort to monitor the weapons and ensure they are not transferred to terrorist groups, including the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) that threatens Turkey.
