Taiwan receives two Perry-class guided-missile frigates from United States

17 May 2017

Two former US Navy Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigates have been delivered to the Republic of China Navy (RoCN).

Manned by Taiwanese crews and flying Republic of China national flags, the two frigates - ex-USS Taylor (FFG 50) and ex-USS Gary (FFG 51) - sailed into Zuoying Naval Base on Taiwan's southern port city of Kaohsiung on 13 May, according to a report by Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA).

Renamed PFG-1112 Feng Chia and PFG-1115 Ming Chuan , the ships will join the RoCN's 146th Flotilla - Attack Squadron based at Makung, Penghu County, and be responsible for patrolling the Taiwan Strait, unnamed sources were quoted by the media outlet as saying.
