More details on the military base that Turkey has established in Qatar were revealed when a Turkish general disclosed to a parliamentary commission that up to 600 troops will be deployed there.
Brigadier General Ihsan Bulbul, deputy undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, told parliament's Foreign Affairs Commission on 4 May that a joint Turkish-Qatari divisional tactical headquarters will be based in Doha. It will be led by a Qatari major general with a Turkish brigadier general acting as his deputy.
The joint base was formally opened in 2016. Gen Bulbul said there are currently 94 Turkish personnel there and they conducted their first exercise with the Qataris in 2015.
