Czech MoD granted approval to award Dana SPH upgrade contract to Tatra Trucks

18 April 2017

The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) was granted approval by the Czech government on 12 April to award a CZK1.5 billion (USD60 million) contract to Tatra Trucks to modernise 33 152 mm Dana self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) in service with the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR).

The MoD required approval from the Czech government in order to take advantage of Czech procurement laws that allow exceptions in awarding acquisition contracts without holding open tenders.

The MoD will now hold direct negotiations with Tatra Trucks in order to finalise a contract. Following signature of the contract the MoD expects Tatra Trucks to deliver the modernised Dana platforms, designated M1Ms, from 2018-2020.
