Colombia's state-run Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para de Desarrollo de la Industria Naval, Marítima y Fluvial (COTECMAR) commenced building a multipurpose naval platform for Honduras on 27 February.
A ceremony was held at the industrial complex in Cartagena where the vessel's first block will be assembled. The platform should be completed in 11 months, according to the shipyard.
The Honduran government has acquired a Short Range Logistic Support Ship (Buque de Apoyo Logístico y Cabotaje: BAL-C), with a length of 49 m, speed of 8.5 kt, and capacity to transport up to 120 tonnes of cargo. The Colombian Navy operates four of these platforms.
