India planning to buy Russian Kalibr cruise missiles, says report

02 September 2016

India intends to buy the export version of Russia's Kalibr land-attack cruise missile equipped with the latest high-precision guidance system, Russian newspaper Izvestia reported on 1 September citing a diplomatic source.

While the paper said the system would be essentially the same as the one used by Russia in the Syrian conflict, it added that, "The Kalibr export version will have a significantly reduced flight distance - as short as 300 km - to avoid violating the provisions of international agreements prohibiting the export of missiles with greater flight range."

However, when contacted by IHS Jane's , the Indian Navy categorically denied having asked Russia for its Kalibr missile system.
