NATO is to review an appeal from its members Turkey and Germany for allied naval intervention to monitor the flow of migrants across the Aegean Sea, according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
"The ministers will address this issue because the migration crisis is of great concern to all of us. We must take very seriously any request from Turkey and other allies to help them deal with this," Stoltenberg told reporters in Brussels on the eve of a 10-11 February meeting of NATO defence ministers. "I expect the ministers to start this debate on how to move forward.
Stoltenberg's comments came after a 7 February meeting in Ankara between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
