Swedish defence technology group Saab announced on 10 September that the contract it signed with the Brazilian government in October 2014 for the supply of 36 Gripen NG multirole combat aircraft has come into effect.
Saab said in a statement that now "all required conditions have been fulfilled" it has booked the SEK39.3 billion order on its balance sheet.
The associated industrial co-operation agreement with Brazilian partners to meet offset obligations associated with the procurement also took effect on 10 September.
Deliveries of the aircraft will run from 2019 to 2024.
Hakan Buskhe, president and chief executive of Saab, said in a statement: "This important milestone marks the formal start to the Brazilian Gripen NG programme.
