Vietnam and Slovakia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defence collaboration on 9 June geared in part towards trade and technology transfers.
The accord was signed in Hanoi during meetings between Vietnam's Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and his visiting counterpart from Slovakia Martin Glvac.
The MoU covers the potential training of Vietnamese troops in Slovakia, and agreements to explore defence trade and related collaboration between Vietnamese and Slovak defence companies. To this end, Slovakia's defence companies marketed some of their products at a workshop held in Hanoi.
Vietnam has previously expressed interest in acquiring from Slovakia mine detection and clearance equipment as well as flight simulation systems.
