A Mexican Air Force (FAM) Airbus Helicopter EC725 medium transport helicopter was forced to conduct an emergency landing after it was attacked over Casimiro Castro-Villa Purificacion, Jalisco, on 1 May.
Three soldiers on board were killed and 12 others on board were wounded.
The EC725 was on a special operation to capture leadership of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) when it was attacked with small arms fire and, reportedly, 12.7 mm fire from a Barret anti-materiel rifle. The helicopter was transporting a joint task force that included army personnel and at least two federal policemen.
The EC725 (FAM serial 1009) was delivered in 2013 and is part of the second order for six EC725 helicopters placed in 2010.
