Chilean Army to launch tender for transport aircraft

11 July 2013

The Chilean Army is set to launch a tender for the acquisition of up to eight tactical transport aircraft to replace its current fleet of Airbus CN235 and C212 platforms, sources in Santiago told IHS Jane's .

As far as discussions for supplanting the CN235, many observers believe the candidates include the C295, as it is already in service with the navy and is being eyed by the air force, and the Alenia C-27J.

The requirement was presented to the government last March, after the army's Aviation Brigade failed to perform all of its assigned transport flights during a joint exercise in Northern Chile because the aircraft were grounded.
