Portugal commissions new rescue boat

The Portuguese Navy commissioned its first new Vigilante II-class L150-SV high-speed search-and-rescue boat on 21 April.
The new boat, named Patrão Cego do Maio, was built by the Portuguese state-owned shipyard, Arsenal do Alfeite. It will operate from the northern coastal city of Póvoa do Varzim.
Patrão Cego do Maio features a hull made of fibre-reinforced composites. It has a displacement of 21 tonnes, with an overall length of 15.5 m and a 4.3 m beam. It has a top speed of 30 kt and a range of 150 n miles. The boat carries a crew complement of four and can accommodate an additional 12 personnel.
The boat is equipped with a Raymarine Quantum navigation radar with two Axiom Pro multifunction displays, a public address system, long-range searchlights, two GPS receiver antennas, a Standard Horizon VLH-3000 intercom, an Icom IC-M506 VHF transceiver, a McMurdo SmartFind G8 Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon and SmartFind M5 Automatic Identification System, an RHOTHETA RT-300 dual-band direction finder, four Raymarine CAM210 day and night external cameras, and an AMI Marine X-VHFR audio and data recorder.
The propulsion consists of two MAN D2676 LE443 diesel engines, each developing 730 hp, coupled to MJP Ultrajet water jets.
A rear ramp system is installed to deploy a Safe at Sea RescueRunner rescue jet ski with the assistance of a Laubjerg Vinsch LV-X 3500 electric winch.
