Dearsan Shipyard displayed a model of the Next Generation Mine Countermeasures (NG MCM) vessel in development for the Turkish Navy at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 held in Istanbul from 22 to 27 July.

Approval for the construction of one NG MCM vessel was granted during a meeting of the Defence Industry Executive Committee (SSİK), chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in January 2024.

This was followed by the award of a construction contract for the vessel to Dearsan in August 2024, with first steel-cutting ceremony scheduled for September 2025.

The NG MCM differs in design from the smaller, conventional MCM vessels typically used by the Turkish Navy.

According to Dearsan, the vessel will have an overall length of 80 m, a 16.6 m beam, and a draught of 3.5 m. Three diesel generators will provide power for propulsion, while two electric Voith Schneider Propellers (eVSPs) will enable a maximum speed of 18 kt.

The ship will be armed with one Aselsan SMASH remotely controlled weapon station fitted with a 25 mm gun and two Aselsan STAMP remotely controlled weapon stations equipped with 12.7 mm machine guns.
