Canadian company Inkas is offering its M1 mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) 4x4 vehicle developed in collaboration with KNDS Mobility, formerly Texelis.
According to Inkas, the M1's V-shaped monocoque armoured hull and reinforced ballistic capsule form a rigid, blast-deflecting structure providing 360° ballistic and blast protection in accordance with NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4/4A and 4B. The vehicle is designed to deliver an optimal balance of survivability, mobility, and mission adaptability in high-threat operations, the company said.
Inkas roduct and business development manager Habib Irani told Janes on 23 April 2026 that M1 versions include troop transport, command and control, reconnaissance, casualty evacuation, and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS). He said the M1 is designed from the ground up, unlike previous Inkas armoured vehicles, and can carry a larger payload.
Previous Inkas vehicles did not take into account the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threat that emerged in Ukraine and have been retrofitted for missions such as counter-UAV (C-UAV). However, the M1 C-UAV variant is designed specifically for that mission, according to Irani. He said the M1 features ‘Afghanistan mobility' and would evolve with time.
KNDS Mobility is supplying the M1 mobility package, with Celeris offering a solution based on work on the French Army's 4x4 light multirole armoured vehicle (Serval Véhicule Blindé Multi-Rôle Léger: VBMR-L) . This includes the axles, powerpack, steering, braking, suspension, electrical architecture, dedicated software, and electronics, some of which were developed or created specifically for Texelis customers.
Irani said the M1 is interoperable with NATO standard communication systems, not only France's SCORPION systems that equip Serval and other French vehicles.
