KNDS displayed the LOng Range Artillery System (LORAS) mounted on a Boxer Remote Controlled Howitzer (RCH) 155 tracked armoured vehicle outside its pavilion at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition held in Paris on 15-19 June. LORAS is a family of 155 mm/58-calibre guns being developed by KNDS France to deliver deep-strike capabilities, drawing on the operational lessons of recent conflicts and the evolving requirements of NATO European allies.
With a rate of fire of over eight rounds a minute, the artillery piece has an area target range of 60 km with standard 155 mm high explosive ammunition and 80-100 km with precision and special ammunition. It is also compatible with current generation 155 mm/52-calibre ammunition under the Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMOU) used by CAESAR and other NATO artillery pieces. The gun is designed to be compatible with existing or future tracked or wheeled platforms. The 58-calibre barrel weighs less than a tonne more than the standard 52-calibre barrel that arms CAESAR.
The RCH 155 tracked platform that LORAS was mounted on and shown at Eurosatory 2026 is the unmanned, fully automated remote controlled Artillery Gun Module (AGM) produced by KNDS Deutschland. According to KNDS, the AGM's network-based system architecture gives it growth potential, for example for unmanned operation.
The RCH 155 LORAS has a combat weight of 45 tonnes, is 11.5 m long and is 3.5 m wide and high. With an engine performance of up to 900 kW, it has a maximum speed of 70 km/h and a range up to 500 km. KNDS said the system's low ground pressure gives it high tactical mobility.
