General Dynamics Land Systems UK (GDLS UK) and Lockheed Martin UK unveiled an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) version of the Ajax armoured vehicle on the first day of the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition being held in London from 9 to 12 September.
The IFV has a crew of three – driver, commander, and an optionally dismountable operator/gunner – with a configurable rear compartment for up to eight dismounts with ergonomic seating and secured stowage under armour. It is armed with an optionally crewed CT40 turret using the digital fire-control system and subsystems from Ajax and firing 40 mm high-explosive, armour-piercing fin-stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS), kinetic energy airburst (KE-AB), and general purpose high-explosive airburst (GPR-AB) rounds. Complementing the CT40 is a 7.62 mm co-axial chain gun, with options including a remote weapon station with a 7.62 mm general purpose machine gun (GPMG), 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, or 40 mm grenade machine gun (GMG); anti-tank guided weapons such as Javelin or Spike; and loitering munitions such as Switchblade.
The dual cockpit crew station has an electronic architecture that provides an integrated, modular artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled control environment for control of the turret/weapon station and sighting; 360° situational awareness; sensor fusion and target management; integrated command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) and a battle management system; dismounted soldier connectivity and communications; and co-ordination and control of unmanned ground and aerial vehicles.
Protection technologies include multispectral signature management; electronic countermeasures; a laser warning system; smoke grenade launchers; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear warning; a spall liner system; mine blast protection; a modular armour system; and an active protection system.
