The Netherlands has signed a contract with Raytheon for an additional Patriot air defence system, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) and RTX announced on 7 April. The USD627 million contract covers the delivery of a fire unit consisting of a radar, command-and-control station, several launchers, and spare parts and logistics elements.
The Dutch MoD said on its website that the agreement was finalised in a few months and follows an earlier Patriot contract signed at the beginning of 2025. A Raytheon press release quoted Pete Bata, the company's senior vice president of Global Patriot, as saying, “Raytheon continues to partner with the Dutch government to modernise its integrated air and missile defence capabilities to deter aggression. Raytheon is accelerating production to deliver these critical systems quickly.”
An RTX spokesperson told Janes on 8 April, “In 2025, Raytheon, along with our suppliers, accelerated Patriot radar delivery times by 25%. Additionally, Raytheon has made a significant investment to secure critical materials ahead of orders to ramp up production, demonstrating our commitment to delivering Patriot systems faster.”
The Dutch MoD said the Patriot system provides air defence against high altitude, long-range threats, contributing to the protection of Dutch territory and that of its allies. Raytheon added that the combat-proven, ground-based air and missile defence system can defend against advanced long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and the full spectrum of air-breathing threats.
The Dutch MoD said it expected the system to be delivered to and deployed by the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command (Defensie Grondgebonden Luchtverdedigingscommando: DGLC) “in a few years”.
