The Indian Army has selected the Mepro X6 telescopic sight, developed by Meprolight, a subsidiary of Israel's SK Group, as the dedicated daytime optic for its in-service Negev light machine gun (LMG).
Meprolight said on 15 June that the Mepro X6 sights will be delivered to the Indian Army through state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The company did not disclose the number or the delivery timeline.
To support local manufacturing, Meprolight has signed a technology transfer agreement with Indian firm RRP Defense. Under this arrangement, RRP Defense will produce the sights in India and supply them to BEL, which will manage the contract with the Indian Army.
Golan Kalimi, Meprolight's senior vice president, told Janes , “Production will include all components being manufactured in India, establishing a sustainable in-country capability while maintaining the high standards of quality, reliability and performance required by the Indian Army.”
He added, “The Mepro X6 is being fielded as a standalone daytime optic and is not currently part of a broader digital or networked sighting integration roadmap.”
According to Kalimi, the system underwent Indian Army validation to assess operability and durability. “The Indian Army's evaluation validated the Mepro X6's optical quality, reticle configuration, durability under demanding environmental conditions and accuracy at ranges of up to 800 m,” Kalimi said.
“The sight met the army's operational requirements throughout the evaluation process, confirming its suitability for the intended role without requiring any design modifications.”
