Honduras modernizes its T-27 Tucano, tests Super Tucano
Honduran Air Force Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano (Honduran Air Force)
The Honduran Air Force (FAH) announced on 23 May it achieved the first flight of its modernized Embraer T-27 Tucano from Coronel Enrique Soto Cano Air Base, located at Palmerola International Airport.
The aircraft, serial number FAH 257, was inactive for approximately 13 years before undergoing an extensive revitalization process, which included a complete structural overhaul, engine maintenance and replacement of its analogue instruments with a modern Garmin avionics package. The Garmin package consisted of the G600TXi, GTN650, GM345 and GI275 systems. Camouflage paint was replaced with a grey paint scheme, according to the FAH.
US company Partex Aviation Services carried out the work on the plane for about eight months in collaboration with Brazilian company Tailwind Parts, whose maintenance coordinator, José Bento Ferreira Filho, informed Janes that this is the first of three Honduran Tucanos that will undergo the same process.
Work on the other two aircraft, serial numbers FAH 251 and 256, is already underway and expected to take about six months per plane, according to the FAH.
Meanwhile, Embraer's A-29 Super Tucano demonstrator arrived at TocontĂn Air Base in Tegucigalpa on 29 May for evaluation by the FAH, which is seeking a replacement for its fleet of Cessna A-37B Dragonflies (six of which remain operational from an original 18 received in 1976 from the United States) and four retired ENAER / CASA A-36 / C-101 aircraft.
