Polaris Government & Defense has confirmed that MRZR Alpha lightweight tactical vehicles are undergoing evaluation in Australia as the company develops a 6x6 variant and expands collaboration with autonomy providers in the US and other allied markets.
Speaking to Janes, Michael Cannell, Polaris' Asia-Pacific (APAC) sales and operations manager, said the company is displaying the MRZR Alpha 4x4 with exportable power capability and the MRZR Alpha 6x6 at Land Forces 2026, which is being held in Perth from 6 to 8 October.
Cannell said that some MRZR Alpha vehicles have already been brought into Australia for customer assessment activities. “There have been a couple of Alphas that have come into [Australia] for trials and everything's progressing very well,” he said.
While declining to discuss specific Australian Army feedback, Cannell said users had responded positively to the vehicle's mobility and payload capacity. “Particularly on the Alpha, it's a highly mobile vehicle [that] carries the payload that they require for their mission set and so far, it's meeting all of their requirements,” he added.
Mobility and power
Cannell said Polaris is positioning the MRZR Alpha for operations in dispersed littoral and archipelagic environments, an area of increasing focus for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
“All of the platforms that we've currently got in our fleet ... have gone through numerous air load, air transport capability [assessments],” he said.
According to Cannell, the platform's low weight, compact dimensions, and high ground clearance support operations across austere and distributed environments. Polaris can also provide data to support internal air transport and external sling-load certification.
