Pakistan has test-fired an extended-range (ER) hypersonic version of its Fatah-II surface-to-surface missile (SSM), the Pakistan Armed Forces' Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on 13 October.

According to ISPR, the Fatah-II ER features “advanced navigation” and “state of the art avionics”. “[Fatah-II ER] is capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating enemy's missile defence systems due to its unique trajectory and manoeuvrability features,” it said.

“Fatah-II ER ... will further enhance [the Pakistan] Army's reach and capability of engaging deep targets,” ISPR added. However, no details were released regarding the missile's maximum range, speed, flight profile, payload, or propulsion system.

The ER variant follows the Pakistan Army Rocket Force Command's (ARFC's) training launch of the baseline Fatah-II in April 2026. The launch was conducted to train troops, validate technical parameters, and assess the performance of subsystems designed to improve the missile's accuracy and survivability, ISPR said at the time.

The baseline Fatah-II, developed by state-owned Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and National Engineering & Scientific Commission (NESCOM), has a range of 400 km.

ISPR previously said that the baseline missile is 7.5 m long and features inertial navigation system (INS) and global navigation satellite services (GNSS) guidance, auto-aiming, and levelling, positioning, and orientation systems. It can carry a 365 kg warhead and has a circular error probable (CEP) of 50 m or less.

Fatah-II is part of Pakistan's wider Fatah missile family, consisting of Fatah-I, Fatah-III, and Fatah-IV. The Pakistan Army is known to operate the 140 km-range Fatah-I and baseline Fatah-II, while the operational status of the 450 km-range Fatah-III and Fatah-IV remains unclear.
