The US Army demonstrated a mobile counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) to the Indian Army during the annual bilateral Exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas', held in September in India.

The US Army said on 25 September that its 11th Airborne Division showcased the Mobile Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aircraft Integrated Defeat System (M-LIDS) at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in India's western state of Rajasthan.

This demonstration enabled both armies to develop a shared understanding of the role that advanced C-UAS capabilities can play in countering the rapidly evolving threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the US Army added.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Mark Giauque, Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Systems Integrator at the 11th Airborne Division, said, “Defeating the small [UAV] threat is not a single-nation fight; it requires interoperable forces that can share information, integrate capabilities, and act as one.”

“The ability of US Army and partner forces to seamlessly detect, identify, and defeat enemy [UAVs] will be critical to maintaining freedom of manoeuvre and protecting the force on the modern battlefield,” he added.

The US Army said the exercise enabled its personnel to practise rapidly deploying and integrating M-LIDS in the challenging environmental conditions of the Rajasthan desert, including high temperatures and airborne dust.

Indian Army personnel observed and familiarised themselves with the system's external components, and discussed C-UAS tactics, techniques and procedures with their US counterparts, the service added.
