Indonesia has signed an agreement with Türkiye to procure 48 fifth-generation Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ) Kaan National Combat Aircraft (MMU), TUSAŞ said.
The agreement was signed on 11 June at the 2025 Indo Defence Expo and Forum in Jakarta. “In accordance with the agreement, all 48 Kaan aircraft will be delivered within 120 months,” TUSAŞ added.
A biennial event, the 2025 Indo Defence Expo and Forum is held from 11 to 14 June.
The signing of the agreement follows Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's official visit to Türkiye in April, during which he expressed Indonesia's intent to participate in the Kaan MMU and Milden (Milli Denizaltı Projesi) submarine programmes.
According to TUSAŞ, the “agreement” covers not only the “delivery” of the Kaan MMU aircraft but also a “significant” transfer of technologies. A company spokesperson told Janes that the potential deal has an estimated value of USD10 billion.
“Through this strategic co-operation, Türkiye and Indonesia aim to promote knowledge sharing and enhance local capabilities. The agreement also envisions leveraging Indonesia's industrial infrastructure and production capacities for the Kaan MMU programme,” the company added in its statement.
The Indonesia-bound Kaan MMU aircraft are to be powered with a new engine (designated as the TF35000) that TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI) is developing domestically for the aircraft.
Earlier, TUSAŞ had told Janes that it plans to complete development of the engine by 2032.
