Croatia orders Chunmoo MRLs from Hanwha Aerospace

The Croatian Ministry of Defence (MORH) signed a contract with Hanwha Aerospace on 10 September 2026 for K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers (MRLs), the South Korean company announced in a press release the next day.

Hanwha valued the contract at EUR411.8 million (nearly USD357 million), with deliveries including 18 Chunmoo MRLs, ammunition carriers, fire control command vehicles and integrated logistics support. The contract also includes multiple types of short-, medium- and long-range precision-guided rockets, as well as training and lifecycle support.

According to Hanwha, the Croatian configuration will incorporate the Topaz battlefield management system developed by Polish company WB Group, supporting interoperability across European Chunmoo users.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who attended the contract signing ceremony, said, “This is one of the largest investments in the equipment and modernisation of the Croatian Armed Forces. With the Chunmoo system, the Croatian Armed Forces acquire a new strategic capability for fast and precise action, with high-value targets at distances from approximately 30 to 300 km.”

Billy Boo-hwan Lee, head of business operations at Hanwha Aerospace, who also attended the signing ceremony, said, “Today's signing marks the beginning of Hanwha Aerospace's long-term defence partnership with Croatia.”

The MORH announced in a press release on 4 September that the Croatian government had approved the procurement of Chunmoo MRLs earlier the same day. The government also approved additional detection and self-protection equipment for Rafale combat aircraft, the upgrade of the Croatian Air Force's combat communications system, the procurement of Spike anti-armour weapons and equipment, the modernisation of the AN/FPS-117 radar system, and the construction of a hangar at Zemunik Air Base.
