UK considering using Ukraine's Avengers Labs data for target identification

The UK is considering using battlefield data from Ukraine's Avengers Labs artificial intelligence (AI) platform “for decision support and target identification functions”, a defence source confirmed to Janes on 27 August 2026.
The UK and Ukraine signed an AI partnership agreement on 24 August that will enable access to Ukraine's Avengers Labs database for training AI models.
The Avengers Labs platform includes data collected by thousands of different sensors which have captured millions of objects including tanks, artillery, air defence systems, infantry, and aerial targets such as Shahed one way attack (OWA) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). As part of the agreement, two projects have been rolled out with UK companies Sintela, Mind Foundry, and Skyral, the defence source confirmed to Janes. More projects and collaborations are also being planned, they added.
The first project will use Ukrainian data and UK technology to turn fibre-optic cables into AI-enabled sensors, according to a 24 August UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) press release. The second project involves the development of low-power AI microchips designed to power unmanned systems and autonomous technology.
Automated detection
According to a 10 August Ukrainian MoD news release, the Avengers Labs platform was already used to train a Ukrainian automated target detection system that processes more than 100,000 video streams from UAVs per month. The target detection system detects 70% of all targets in real time, according to Ukraine's MoD.
