Advanced Navigation's new Chimera Land sensor marks the latest expansion of the Australian company's defence-focused product line as demand grows among military customers for its inertial navigation systems (INSs) and related products, the company told Janes.
The company produces positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solutions for a range of markets, including defence. Its technology is designed to provide accurate positioning and orientation in GNSS-denied environments, such as during jamming or underground operations.
Its principal products are the Certus and Boreas INS families, which are designed for integration into platforms ranging from UASs to tactical vehicles.
Advanced Navigation works across different sectors, but defence has been a major growth area in recent years, said Michelle Toscan, its head of APAC.
For example, the company recently secured a contract to provide 138 Boreas D70 digital fibre-optic gyroscope (FOG) INS units for 129 Redback infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), being delivered to the Australian Army by Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA).
The company has also supplied FOG INS units to Rheinmetall Defence Australia for Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRVs) in Australian Army service.
On the export market, Kongsberg has acquired the Boreas D90 for integration into Protector RS4 remote weapon stations (RWSs).
This is part of the Global Supply Chain programme from the Australian Department of Defence, which connects Australian suppliers with international defence primes.
“We work closely with those primes, sometimes from a retrofit perspective if they're looking to modernise their capabilities, as well as supporting their new technology,” Toscan said.
