SIATT launches operations at new missile plant in Caçapava

The MAX 1.2 AC anti-tank missile system is in service with the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Marine Corps (Victor Barreira)

Brazilian missile specialist SIATT–Engenharia, Indústria e Comércio formally launched operations at its new plant in Caçapava, in the state of São Paulo, on 26 August, Rogério Salvador, CEO for SIATT, said in a statement.

With 6,200 m² of built area, the facility brings together infrastructure for the manufacture of missiles and 70 mm rockets, as well as propulsion systems for space applications.

The plant is expected to generate 640 jobs, including 160 direct and 480 indirect, Rogério said.

SIATT has a current workforce of 282, according to the company. The Emirati EDGE Group defence conglomerate owns 49.9% of the company.

The 800,000 m² site in Caçapava, with a planned 11,000 m² of built area, is designed to accommodate solid propellant manufacturing, testing activities, and final integration work, SIATT told Janes .

The new plant complements the 6,900 m² building in São José dos Campos, state of São Paulo, that hosts development, engineering, integration, and manufacturing facilities, and management offices and laboratories.

SIATT has developed the MANSUP anti-ship missile jointly with the Brazilian Navy and local companies Omnisys and Fundação Ezute as part of the Esporão Program of the navy's “Naval Power Modernization” strategic programme. An extended-range configuration called MANSUP-ER is in development.

SIATT has also developed the MAX 1.2 AC medium-range anti-tank guided missile system together with the Brazilian Army's Technological Center.

Other solutions include the SDCL (Sistema de Defesa de Costa e Litoral) truck-mounted coastal defence system that is designed to launch MANSUP and MANSUP-ER missiles.
