The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) has deployed its first battery of BrahMos shore-based anti-ship missiles (ASMs).

The PMC published footage on its social media commemorating its 75th anniversary on 7 November, which showed a battery of BrahMos ASMs being operated by the service's Coastal Defense Regiment. Two 12×12 autonomous launcher vehicles each fitted with twin canisters, a mobile command post, a maintenance vehicle, and a missile replenishment vehicle were seen in the footage.

The deployment follows a notice of award that the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) issued to India's BrahMos Aerospace in 2021 to supply three BrahMos ASM batteries to the PMC.

These missiles are intended to improve the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP's) anti-access/area-denial capabilities in the South China Sea against perceived naval threats from China.

The BrahMos ASM was developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture (JV) between India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM).

BrahMos ASM is a ground-launched supersonic cruise missile that has a maximum range of 290 km. It features a two-stage solid-propellent rocket booster and a ramjet engine.

Janes analysis of the footage of the BrahMos ASM suggests that the Philippines received an export variant of the BrahMos Block I.
