Germany signed a Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) work package with Patria for the NEMO self-propelled mortar on 31 January after joining the programme, the Finnish company announced in a press release later the same day.
The work package covers development and qualification of CAVS programme-related mortar variants for the Bundeswehr under the CAVS research and development agreement, which Germany signed in 2024. The scope of the work package includes building CAVS NEMO and mortar command-and-control variants, their integration with German mission systems, and the qualification of the entire system to Bundeswehr requirements. Patria valued the agreement at approximately EUR50 million (USD51.3 million).
Asked by Janes where in Germany CAVS production would take place and when it would start, a Patria spokesperson said on 31 January, “Patria has teamed up with KNDS (Freisen), FFG (Flensburg), and JWT (Kirchen am Sieg), and these will be the sites of main production activities in the serial phase. The industry team is ready to start serial deliveries in about a year from the serial order.”

On 30 January Patria announced that Germany had joined the CAVS framework agreement, enabling Bundeswehr serial procurement of CAVS vehicles based on the Patria 6×6 vehicle. After Finland, Latvia, and Sweden, Germany is the fourth country to access the CAVS framework agreement.
