The Turkish small arms specialist Samsun Yurt Savunma Sanayi ve Ticaret has been selected to supply 200 of its M2HB Quick Change Barrel (QCB) 12.7ร99 mm NATO-standard heavy machine guns worth USD3.1 million to the Brazilian Army.
A contract for the machine guns from the company โ also known as Canik Arms โ is yet to be signed, a Brazilian Army source told Janes on 15 January. This could bethe first ever major business for a Turkish defence company in Brazil.
A team from Logistics Command is scheduled to conduct a technical visit to the company in March 2025, Janes was told.
A request for quotation (RFQ) for the procurement of 200 M2HB QCBs was issued on 18 September 2024 by the Brazilian Army Commission in Washington on behalf of Logistics Command.
Canik Arms was selected over FN Herstal, Aquila International, and Ohio Ordnance Works.
The machine guns are intended to arm remotely controlled and manually operated weapon stations mounted to wheeled armoured vehicles, according to the army commission.
The Brazilian Army fields ARES REMAX 3 and WE Platt MR550 weapon stations on Guarani 6ร6 and Guaicurus 4ร4 vehicles, and is to receive ARES REMAX 4 remote weapon stations (RWSs) and ARES REMAN (REparo MANual) manually operated protected weapon stations (PWSs), as well as additional MR550s.
The Brazilian Army has 420 Guaicurus light multirole vehicles and 1,463 Guarani amphibious armoured vehicles on order from Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) as part of the Armored Forces Strategic Program.
